Double sided Embosser for Braille Magazines
 4X4 PRO Picture Books picture

The Index 4X4 PRO automatically produces Braille magazines, books, andnewspapers, in a saddle stitch format. This makes even low volume editions cost effective.

4X4 PRO is the perfect tool for producing school books, marketing material, menus andpublic information. Prepare the file for Braille embossing, emboss, staple and fold -READY.

In the past, the production of Braille magazines has been hard tedious work, making lowvolume editions very expensive, and in many situations impractical.

It is quick and easy to complete Braille documents in magazine format using the Index4X4 PRO and the Index Stapler.

The Index 4X4 PRO

The Index 4X4 PRO is a production Braille Embosser for magazines in saddle stitchbinding format. Binding of the Braille material is reduced to folding and stapling. When afile is transmitted to the 4X4 PRO it is processed in the following manner.

1. The 4X4 PRO receives the translated Braille text from the computer and stores it inthe memory. Maximum 200 pages of Braille text.

2. The text is processed into magazine format. For example, first sheet printed for aforty page document will consist of page numbers 1, 2, 39, 40 then 3, 4, 37 and 38 etc..

3. The 4X4 PRO automatically embosses a pre-folding line in the centre of each page tomake the folding process easier. The pages will be printed in correct order for staplingand folding.

4. Staple and fold the magazine. The Braille magazine is finished!

Magazine or saddle stitch binding format

Saddle Stitch is a term for staple or "stitch" binding used by news-papersand magazines. It used to be only for material printed or embossed on big plate machines. This format is easy to read, lasts a long time, and is inexpensive. The past problemsrelated to the staple stitch system was that it could only be used by the big platemachines. This made stitch bindings advantages impractical and too costly for smallBraille editions.

Emboss Magazines direct from your PC

The Index 4X4 PRO performs all the plate production processes that were tedious andtime consuming in its logic circuitry. The document is processed the same way that anydocument sent to a Braille Embosser is processed, with or without the use of a Brailletranslation program. If you use Grade 1 (literary Braille) or Computer Braille thebuilt-in Braille translation tables and formatting functions of 4X4 PRO produce highquality Braille direct from a file in DOS or Windows (Using the Index Windows Driver).
In case you prefer Grade 2 (contracted Braille) you can produce the magazine using Brailletranslation software available in your country, such as for example, Duxbury,BrailleMaster, MegaDots, Braille Maker or Cipher.

After the 4X4 PRO receives a complete file, the number of pages will be calculated andformatted automatically. After the embossing process, the material is stacked in correctorder for final stapling and hand folding.

Emboss on demand

The high speed and ease of binding makes Braille magazines available on command. A onehundred page Braille magazine will be ready (embossed, stapled, folded and ready to go) inless than twenty minutes.

Index 4X4 PRO - A heavy duty Braille Production unit

The 4X4 PRO has been designed and tested for continuous production of Braille. It hasalso been designed and tested to produce hundreds of thousands of pages of Braille textbefore needing maintenance. If the maximum speed is too low for your needs, solve it byinstalling several 4X4 PRO.
This arrangement will increase printing speed, secure production during maintenance, allat a very competitive price.

Index 4X4 PRO & PC = Braille Magazine

With the 4X4 PRO small Companies and schools can, for the first time, produce Braillemagazines, or books with similar
format and in many cases better quality than the big Braille Houses at a fraction of theircost.
A small local organisation with a good working knowledge of Braille, a PC, and an Index4X4 PRO system equals the most efficient Braille production centre today. Index makes itsimple to start a professional Braille production facility.

Cost effective paper

A single sheet paper feed system is the most efficient way of producing small Braillemagazines and Braille books. The 4X4 PRO can load 80 pages of paper with dimensions largeenough to accommodate four pages of Braille print in its paper feed system. The totalpaper output from the paper feed system is approximately 320 pages of embossed material, with a total embossing time of nearly one hour before needing to reload paper.

The 4X4 PRO can use cut sheet card stock paper, which normally can be purchased fromlocal paper suppliers. Paper prices are dramatically reduced when purchased in this way.
Combine this feature with the 4X4 PRO's ability to produce four pages of Braille for eachsheet of paper, reduces waste and cost even further.

Index Braille Stapler

Standard staplers are not heavy enough to handle the requirements of Braille binding. The paper used for Braille is heavier than conventional paper used for other applications.
Index has adapted a heavy duty stapler to this specific use, the binding of Braille magazines produced by 4X4 PRO.

1. Easy to use on Braille paper, maximum 50 sheets of paper.

2. Easily adjusted centre line for different Braille magazine widths.

3. It is easy to line up stacks of paper for blind or sighted people.
